Today I decided that Lucy and I needed to get out of the house. Luckily for us, Noccalula falls just down the road and up a mountain from us. It has so many beautiful sites and walking trails. It also has a petting zoo, which is Lucy’s favorite. And they also house some exotic animals like a lion, peacocks, lemurs, and llamas.
My favorite parts of the park are the Pioneer Village and the botanical gardens. The Pioneer Village is a makeshift town that is actual buildings that were a part of the original pioneer settlements. Most of the buildings came from Tennessee and were moved to the park for preservation purposes. There is a general store, a school house, a mill, a barn, and several examples of the pioneer homes and kitchens. It is really fascinating to see.
When you pay admission to the park, it includes a train rides to all the different locations. Today, they had an Indian Village set up, in order to show how the earliest settlers of this land lived.
This is fitting because the name Noccalula comes from the name of a Cherokee Indian Princess, who jumped to her death after being pledged to marry a man that she was not in love with. The park has a large bronze sculpture of the princess in commemoration of her timely demise.
Here are some pictures I took of our fun filled day!
Here is a picture of the falls and the chapel. Normally, the falls are much bigger but we have had a lack of rain lately in Alabama.
